This piece (above) is by far my most spontaneous floral piece created to date. I first scribbled a rough sketch using a fineliner. I then grabbed two purple water color pencils and scribbled furiously without thought..highlighting here and there with such force that my arm began to ache! I felt liberated ...and free....I then finished it off with black water color pencil and a wet brush! This was 'Art Therapy' at it's best!
PASSION III
PASSION II
This painting is one of the few of my on going series. I first experimented painting with watercolor pencils 14 years ago, but I did not push my boundaries as far as this series. With this series, I enlarged the scale to create added drama. I also chose intense colors to seemingly scream...BAM!
A close friend once mentioned that this image represented my "...passionate side .. the part that says there are no limits to who I am and how I can express myself!"
Other past interpretations:
"I love the movement of the petals, the rawness of the white showing through and the richness of the "reds"...they are floating... each petal asking to be kissed!"
This flower was painted upon request, but not commissioned. The guidelines I had to work with was that the flower had to represent the color gold. I Googled 'golden flower', but there was no such flower. I decided to be creative and turned an image of a lily into a 'golden lily'. I was extremely discouraged to paint the image, for all I saw while painting were images of yellow rotten bananas! After including highlights and adding a deep onyx black to the background, the piece turned out to be my most favorite! Gold happens to also be my favorite color aside from pink! I love how the petals manage to bend and fold with the use of tone and color! This image really brightens up my day!
Magnolia trees line the streets near my house. How I wish I had my own magnolia tree to wake up to each morning! I am also fortunate enough to have the magnolia trees follow me to work. Yes, they line the streets near the school I work at too!
Interpretations:
"The green stems have such strength, forming a powerful
structure and support for the flowers. The pink petals gather in clusters
as they have slowly opened up and expressed their vulnerability to the
world, knowing that they have a strong support... I see the blue sky
playing with the pink petals like two entities that are self-confident and
can love each other!"
I had so much fun painting these flowers. The little green buds are my favorite. I like how they are ready to burst with the use of light and shadow. They kind of remind me of green edamame beans!
Interpretations: "The yellow flowers speak of family and generations as the mature flowers almost guide the younger ones to open, teaching them, and encouraging
them, proving that it is okay to be proud of who we are! There are many stages to life, and each stage contains its own fullness. I like how the buds appear so full - ready to burst into their dynamic colors."
